Jan has directed award-winning theatre teams, highly acclaimed musicals and Shakespeare plays for the past 23 years. She received her Masters of Fine Arts in Theatre Education at the University of Utah and her bachelors at SUU in acting. She served as a theatre teacher in Alpine School District for 15 years where she was named Teacher of the Year in 2001. She moved to Tuacahn High School for the Performing Arts where she served seven years as Artistic Director, taught musical theatre and created Desert Stars, a summer institute for children ages 5 to 14. In 2009, she was given “Administrator of the Year,” by the Utah State Charter School Association and in 2011 she was one of five teachers in the United States that was placed in the National Theatre Educators Hall of Fame.
Among her writing pursuits Jan has published a full-length play for the Alzheimer’s Association called When, and a collection of monologues for kids that she uses in her master class series “Desert Stars.” She also write a popular blog about her life and teaching at other-peoples-kids.blogspot.com. Jan has been a faculty member at BYU, SUU and Dixie State College. She has directed plays for the Utah Shakespeare Festival, Tuacahn Center for the Arts, The Neil Simon Festival and many community arts centers. She will be joining the staff at the Sandy Amphitheatre for the summer of 2013. She now serves as Artistic Director at Salt Lake School for the Performing Arts.
